All cricketing fans and buffs, just take a look here. Oh common, we all know that, you may say. But, still isn’t it heartening to write about India’s win over Pakistan in the World Cup match yet again. This was the sixth time that India and Pakistan have faced off in World Cups and India has been victorious all the times.
India v Pakistan 1992 World Cup
Played at Sydney Cricket Ground
This was the beginning of the history – the first World Cup match between Indian and Pakistan. Batting first India scored 216 runs. Remember, in those days a score about 200 was considered to be a healthy score. Still, for a World Cup match, it was not too good to look at. However, India bowled out Pakistan for only 173 runs.
Man of the Match: Sachin Tendulkar 54 runs (62 balls)
India v Pakistan 1996 World Cup
Played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore
This match will be long remembered for the explosive batting by Ajay Jadeja. In 25 balls he hammered by 45 runs with four fours and a couple of huge sixes. A score of 287 runs was a real competitive score that India set on the board. Pakistan could never really even come even close to the total and folded at 248 runs.
Man of the Match: N S Sindhu 93 runs (115 balls)
India v Pakistan 1999 World Cup
Played at Old Trafford, Manchester
Once again India batted first this time too and could successfully defend the total. Given the batting rules of that time once again 227 was a decent one. Rahul Dravid and Mohd. Azharuddin scored 61 and 59 runs respectively. However, Venkatesh Prasad broke the back of Pakistan batting by claiming 5 wickets for only 27 runs. Pakistan was bowled out for 180 runs only.
Man of the Match: Venkatesh Prasad 9.3-2-27-5.
India v Pakistan 2003 World Cup
Played at SuperSport Park, Centurion
Be it defending a total or chasing it, India has done it both. In the fourth match of the World Cup, India successfully chased down the target of 274 runs. India scored 276 runs in 45.4 overs, by losing just four wickets. Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh remained not out on 44 and 50 runs respectively. Before that Sachin Tendulkar missed a century by a whisker and was out for 98.
Man of the Match: Sachin Tendulkar 98 runs (75 balls)
India v Pakistan 2011 World Cup
Played at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh
Sparks were flying during this match, which was the semi final between these two traditional rivals. Once again India batted first and scored a decent 260 runs. With powerplay rules in force, this wasn’t really a great score. But, India knew how to defend. Pakistani wickets kept falling and finally all ended with them scoring 231 runs and India making it to the finals. Tendulkar was once again the man of the match for his 85 runs.
Man of the Match: Sachin Tendulkar 85 runs (115 balls)
India v Pakistan 2015 World Cup
Played at Adelaide Oval
Social media had created a good hype in the run up to this match. Everyone – especially the Indian fans were expecting a 6-0 beating and that materialized once again. India scored exactly 300 runs and stopped Pakistan at 224 runs in 47.4 overs. Virat Kohli scored another ODI ton to guide India to this victory, which was more for prestige than anything else.
Man of the Match: Virat Kohli 107 runs (126 balls)
