In a shocking incident in Goa, union minister Smriti Irani
was ‘caught’ in a changing room. She was in a fashion boutique Fabindia in the
costal state of India. When the HRD union minister is also spied upon, how secure
are the common women in India?
Well, this is just a rhetoric question. I – and only me, we
all – do not expect any answer to this question. When on one hand Delhi is
tagged as the rape capital of India, things aren’t any better in other parts of
India.
3-4 people were held and taken in custody regarding the
incident that took place in Calangute in north Goa, which is a beach resort. The
incident came to light when the minister’s staff noticed the camera. It was
strategically placed that pointed directly towards the changing room.
As soon as the police got the report, they sealed the shop as
well as detained at least three to four people in question. However, the
identities of the detained people were not disclosed for security reasons.
However, even such incident was looked at a political farce by
Congress. Actually, it is understood that Goa is a safe place for women. But,
this has become one of the high profile cases. Some reports also claim that the
culprit camera was in place for at least four months.
This is really surprising as a camera is in place for four
months and no one talks about it. It is only when these developments hardened
today that it came to light. It is possible that there is a whole lot of
footage stored in the computer’s hard disk that can potentially create problems
for the customers who used the trial room unaware that they were actually being
‘spied on’.
Fabindia, on their part has come up with a statement condemning
the incident. And also added that they will offer full support to the police in
the investigations. It remains to be seen on whose ‘orders’ the camera was
placed facing the trial room and what amount of punishment the people in
question get.

Another instance of the fence eating the crop. Cameras are supposed to protect!
Rightly put there, Tomichan!!! I wonder when India will become a safe place for women. This also sends a bad message in tourism industry too.
