An expected leader came to the fore
in the form of Ajinkya Rahane, when he was selected as the captain of the Indian
team that will travel to Zimbabwe next month for a bilateral series.
This will be the second-string Indian
team where all the senior players will be rested. The big names that are rested
are ODI captain M S Dhoni, Virat Kohli – the test captain. Three specialist
batsmen – Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina are also asked to rest.
In the bowling department, Umesh
Yadav and R Ashwin will also be absent from the tour. The team director, Ravi
Shastri will also not travel to Zimbabwe next month. And due to his bad patch on
the field with both the bat and the ball, Ravindra Jadeja has been dropped.
Sandip Patil, who is the chairman
of the selectors, said that the BCCI does not give rest to the players. That is
the reason why they could send a full-strength team to the neighboring Bangladesh
even after the World Cup got over recently.
Clarifying on those names that were
not mentioned meant that those players were dropped, Patil clarified. Harbhajan
Singh has made it back to the squad after playing his last ODI way back in
2011.
As far as wicket keeping is
concerned, no specialist keeper has been chosen. There are however, three
players who can keep. Those players are Kedar Jadhav, Robbin Uthappa and Ambati
Rayudu.
